What a great word for the week! Tact. It’s short and sweet. This is a character trait that is so needed today. It seems that there is a lot of finger pointing these days of the flaws and shortcomings of others. Being tactful is a forgotten art.
It’s just part of human nature to want to feel superior to others. History proves that over and over. It’s survival of the fittest in this jungle sometimes. Our egos are always looking to be stroked. And we’ve come to be a society of people who look out for ourselves more than we look out for our neighbors. But what if we became more aware of each others’ feelings and tried to make friends instead of enemies?

We’ve all done or said stupid things at one time or another in our lives—I know I have… a lot! Social media makes it so easy to post and share tactless responses. But let’s step back from our phones and think how we would want someone to respond to us if the tables were turned? With empathy and understanding? With care and concern?
We all have shortcomings. Some of us are just better at hiding them than others. Some of us are a little more honest about them and have learned to overcome them. Everyone has flaws. Sometimes we forget that we have them too. Let’s share how we’ve overcome some of our flaws so others may benefit.
Let’s share our stories with love and concern for others. Let’s try to be friends instead of accusers or making ourselves seem better than others. Strip away all the material things and notice that we all are created equal in the eyes of God. We can be friends and have differences of opinion. We can learn to say things with love.
As we head into this election, let’s try to use a little tact. We aren’t always going to agree on issues, we don’t all believe the same things, but we do have to live here together. So let’s live here in love.
