Well, here we are at the end of January. This is the month where a lot of people are goal-seeking. New year, new you. How are your goals, your resolutions going? Are you still as excited about attaining them as you were at the beginning of the year? Are you still on track?
I love goals. I’m a list maker, so setting goals and then working to complete them is my thing. I’ll admit, I don’t always complete every goal I set out to do, but I give it a good try most of the time. Take this last year, for example. My goal was to have a calendar/planner and a workbook for sale on my website. — That didn’t happen.
I got a little lazy and let the whole COVID year become my excuse. I lost focus of my goal. We can talk ourselves into and out of a whole bunch of excuses as to why we don’t achieve our goals. It could be that we don’t really want them, or we don’t see the benefit. Maybe it’s just too lofty of a goal. Like I said, so many excuses. What are some of yours?
So when you are seeking a goal, make sure you have some actionable steps to reach it. Plan it out in your mind and then on paper. Put it somewhere where you will see it daily as a reminder to stay on track. Some people put pictures of their goal up on a wall and call it a vision board.
Here’s another good tip. Tell others what your goal is. Ask them to help keep you accountable. It’s scary to make something known to your friends and family. You have a little pressure now to succeed and get the thing done.
I’m learning everything in this life is about discipline. Yuck! This culture is all about doing whatever I want, isn’t it? Why would I want to be disciplined? My friends, that is where the key to reaching goals is, in discipline, fortitude and stick-to-it-ive-ness.
So it’s the end of the month, keep going. When February rolls around, keep going, Keep going through March and April and however long it takes to reach your goal. Keep going till you get it. Be disciplined.
Write It Down.
Like every character habit I teach, write down your goals. Put it in your planner. Stay the course. This time next year, I hope I’ll be telling you to put it in MY planner that will be available on my website! That’s my goal. But just hoping won’t make it happen. I’m going to spend 30 minutes a day in creating that thing. Learning to use Pages, finding a printing company, doing all the things necessary to reach my goal.
