This little guy has persuasiveness.

This week we are talking about persuasiveness. How persuasive are you? Can you talk others into doing something you want them to do?

Being persuasive is about helping others see the benefits of what you are talking about. Guiding them into truths. Persuasiveness can help them overcome mental roadblocks that keep them from seeing your side of things.

In persuading others, you have to help them see the benefits. You have to be sincere and let them know you have their best interests at heart. There has to be a form of trust established.

As a parent, you are always persuading your children to do the right things. You teach them as they grow to trust your judgement. You can persuade them with the power behind your voice when you tell them to stop doing something before they get hurt.

Some parents are persuasive in teaching their children what NOT to do by their example. My mother was a smoker. I learned at an early age, and my mother persuaded me in my choice, not to follow in her footsteps when it came to smoking. Sometimes we learn a lot from our parents when it comes to what not to do.

We can try to persuade our loved ones to make wise decisions and have good character, but ultimately, it is a decision they will decide for themselves. Hopefully, our persuasion came through as we were good role models. They will choose accordingly.

Persuasiveness is also important in sales. In order to sell anything, you must be persuasive. Marketing has gotten so tricky over the years.–If they can just get you to click on that link, your life’s problems would be solved. –Even I have a button on my page!

How to Be Persuasive

  1. Find something the other person is passionate about.
  2. Make it look good or interesting to them.
  3. Don’t stretch the truth. Never lie– that never works in your favor.
  4. Don’t argue or try to manipulate them. Sincerity is best.
  5. List the benefits of your persuasion.

I used to work as a volunteer coordinator at a YMCA. I learned how to get others to volunteer their time at our facility. You learn very quickly how to persuade others to help you. Most people are generous and caring. They like to feel good by helping others.

This blog is all about persuasiveness. Each week, now for almost 2 years, I’ve been encouraging and persuading others to change their habits and change their lives. I want people to live life to the fullest. This year has been a trying one. We’ve all been stuck inside. What a perfect year to work on our character! What a great time to figure out how to be the best versions of ourselves. I hope I have been able to persuade you to improve your character for the better.

Schedule it in your planner or calendar. Practice it for 21 days.

God bless.–Barb
