What’s Your Purpose?

Knowing your purpose gets you up in the morning.

Why are you here? What is the meaning of life? What’s your purpose? Boy, if those aren’t age old questions that every generation has been trying to figure out!

Do you know what your purpose is? Do you have any idea? It’s the reason you get up every day and could be the most important thing you ever figure out in your life. I believe this is the reason there is so much depression and anxiety in the world. People have lost their passion to find their purpose. Purpose drives people to do things they never imagined possible. Your purpose changes over time as you grow and mature. It doesn’t always stay the same, although it very well could. Many times we have more than one purpose and many times it lasts only for a season and another one takes its place. Here are mine so far:

  • Child of God
  • Wife
  • Mother, grandmother
  • Church secretary
  • Writer
  • Seamstress
  • Serving others
  • Encourager

I also have a gift of being able to see other people’s gifts and showing them how to use those gifts for others. What are your gifts? What are some things you are passionate about?

When you are in line with your purpose, you are your happiest self. I tell my kids all the time, to find something you like to do, then do it with all your heart and when you find a way to make a living doing it, you will never ‘work’ a day in your life.

Do you have any hobbies? Are you a good cook? Do you like gardening? Are you good at striking up a conversation with others?

On a sheet of paper, I’d like you to list 5 things you like to do and beside each one add some creative way that you could monetize it into making a living. Dream big, because the sky’s the limit! But here’s the clincher: You’ve got to include God in your plans because He already knows them.

Bible Verses

The Bible talks about our purpose and helps connect us to God in order for us to fully know our purpose. Here are a few verses to get you thinking:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”–Jeremiah 29:11

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. –Proverbs 19:21

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. –Romans 8:28

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. –Ephesians 2:10

Do these verses encourage you to start working on your purpose? Purpose gives us meaning, a reason to live and go on. Are you living your life according to God’s purpose, doing what He has called you to do? Live life to the fullest by connecting with Him through prayer and discernment.
