Nobody’s Perfect

Nobody’s perfect….except maybe this girl. Grandchildren are perfect.

It’s Wednesday morning. Time for another fantastic blog. What should I write about today? — I don’t have a clue. It’s my 99th post and I feel like I’m running out of ideas. But then a thought entered my mind and I said to myself, “Nobody’s perfect.” Perfect. 100%. I haven’t missed a Wednesday blog post since I started writing and I’m not going to start now because I have one more week to hit 100. Keep going. I want it to be perfect.

Today we’re going to talk about those times when we feel we have to be perfect. I don’t know about you, but I try to be. Something inside me doesn’t want to let other people down. I have high expectations for myself and so I set the bar high for others too. It’s just something that has worked for me. I strive to be perfect, even though I know I never will be and I don’t always hit the mark.

There’s a balance you have to strike. It’s not really about being “perfect” as much as it is about being your best and doing your best but also knowing you have limitations. We are all human and we make mistakes. We are sinners. It’s a fact of life.

When I first started working at my church, I held our priest in high esteem. I put him on this pedestal and sure enough, he fell off of it. I was disappointed to think that he could actually have faults like other people. That was a valuable life lesson for me. Nobody’s perfect and that’s ok.

Priests, parents, teachers, public figures, even politicians–They are all human beings with flaws and imperfections like everyone else. And we all have them, even though some of us are better at hiding them than others. Nobody’s perfect and it’s ok.

The key is learning to live and love each other through it all. Life is messy, nothing is perfect. But we need to keep striving to be better, to be the best humans we can possibly be.

So here’s to blog #99. Thanks for following along. Stay tuned. The pressure is building for blog #100 to be perfect…or not.
