It may be a funny question to ask at my age, but in the morning, when I get up, that is the very question I ask myself, every day. “Who are you gonna be today?” Because I can be anyone I want to be. I get to choose this day and every day to be someone who is caring, respectful and responsible. I can choose to not let chaos or negativity ruin my day. As my day begins, I can reflect on who I was yesterday and whether or not I was happy with it.
There are many people who don’t like themselves or others, for that matter, very much. They are disappointed with how their lives have turned out because they didn’t choose wisely. But that doesn’t have to continue. We have choices. And every new day we get is a chance to turn it all around.
In the Bible, the book of Joshua (24:15) puts it pretty plainly. “Choose this day whom you will serve.” –And we do, every day, we choose. Who do you serve? What is it that gives your life meaning? Is it God , your family? Is it money or things?
You Choose
You get to decide by the choices you make every day. Hundreds of choices. Think about that. Who are you gonna be?
I have been studying character development now for over 20 years. I feel pretty confident when I tell you that loving Jesus, choosing positivity, and creating good character habits are the best choices I have ever made. Money, power and possessions are just temporary good feelings. They don’t last. The relationships you build by loving Jesus and the people he puts in your life is what really matters.
So this week, as we head into Christmas, get up each day and determine to make your choices around those two things. Welcome them both into your home. Remind yourself. Put some post it notes around the house: on the mirrors, refrigerator, wherever you can see them often. “Make good choices.”
Thanks for following along. Merry Christmas. May God bless you and your families with time together in the new year to come.
